Research
My research develops predictive numerical models for materials and structures under complex loading. During my PhD, I combined experimental data, inverse methods, and computational mechanics to link material physics with engineering-scale simulations, with applications in fatigue, geomaterials, and metallic structures. Today, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Tampere Institute for Advanced Study and Tampere University, I bring that physics into the design process itself. I use agent-based CAE workflows to automate, orchestrate, and optimize simulations, so that designs are both sustainable and built to last.
Current Project: LIDO-SuMa
Lifetime-Informed Design Optimization for Sustainable Manufacturing
Tampere Institute for Advanced Study and Tampere University · 2026 to 2028
Products are usually optimized for performance, cost, or environmental impact first, and checked for durability later. LIDO-SuMa brings fatigue and wear into the optimization loop from the start, and uses AI agents to make that loop fast, traceable, and practical at industrial scale.
Sustainable only if it lasts
A lighter, lower-footprint design is not sustainable if it fails early. Early failure means replacement parts, downtime, and extra emissions, and in the worst case it puts people at risk. That is a cost no sustainability metric should ever have to count. In LIDO-SuMa, a design only earns its sustainability score if it holds up through its full service life.
Agents in CAE: Automation, Orchestration, and Optimization
Specialized agents, equipped with deterministic CAx functions, handle material selection, manufacturability checks, and FEM set-up. An orchestrator connects them into one robust workflow, and agent-based optimizers decide where to sample next, so far fewer expensive simulations are needed. Every step is logged, and engineers can review and steer the process while it runs.
Durability as a Design Constraint
Fatigue, wear, and fretting become explicit constraints inside the optimization, instead of checks made after the design is chosen.
Physics-Informed Surrogates
Surrogate models trained where the agents find the design space most relevant keep optimization affordable, even for large, high-fidelity models.
Durability and Sustainability Trade-offs
A metric that measures environmental impact per unit of delivered service life, showing where durability and sustainability work together and where they conflict.
